Hi, friends. Today’s post is a bit more personal than what I usually write about but I really wanted to chat a bit about what I want need to see more of in the new year. 2016 was a really great year – lots of firsts, lots of challenges overcome, and lots of happy memories. I don’t want to go into the new year with a ton of fancy resolutions or strive to reach too many big goals. In fact, I kind of want to do the opposite. I want to do a lot less striving for more and instead thrive where I am right now. My word of the year last year was rest. This year, I’m not choosing a word. Not because I don’t like the idea, but because I didn’t feel like any one word was a good fit for the feeling I have about 2017. While I definitely do want to get more organized, get into better shape, and eat healthier – that’s not what I’m focusing on this year. Below are a few things I want to see a whole lot more of (and a few things I want to see a lot less of!) in the new year.
More beach days. The beach is my happy place. Whether it’s a quick walk or a full day laying on the sand – I feel alive when I’m on the beach. Who knows, we may not live at the beach forever, so I want to soak it in as much as possible. I so want more of this.
Less working at night. Confession – I write to you now from my kitchen island, past 6pm. Oops. In the new year I want to do less of this, but tonight I’ll give myself a little grace for the sake of finishing this post. When Pearce and I are both home in the evenings, I’d love to spend more time with him instead of hitting these keys. Unless of course he needs a little alone time with his xbox – he teaches 500 students every week, so sometimes he needs that. Anyone else cringe when they read FIVE HUNDRED students?! Yeah, he’s a saint. 😉
More time in the Word. I want mornings where I dive into my bible and forget about the time. I want new revelation from what I read in the Word. I want more scripture adorning the walls of our home. I want to pull others into His Word with me – through social media, random text messages, or coffee dates. However it happens, I just want more of it.
Less time comparing. This one is hard to write because I almost hate to admit it. But it’s a thing. Comparison is the thief of joy. It’s a nasty trap. And I’m not getting sucked into it this year! That may mean I unfollow 300 bloggers on instagram – but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Cheers to having enough, being enough, and being happy right where I am.
What do y’all want to see more (or less!) of in 2017?
