Fact: Holidays are more fun with littles around! Watching all of the magic through their eyes is a gift in and of itself. Alba Grace (age 3) doesn’t talk about time by referencing seasons but instead by asking which holiday is next. Once one ends we’re already talking about the next regardless of how far away it is. So on February 15th we’re moving on to St. Patrick’s Day and Easter and there’s not much I can do about that. Not that I mind a bit! I eat this stuff up!
Last year we hosted a family Valentine’s Day brunch complete with tasty treats, balloons everywhere, festive decor, and a killer playlist. We’ll be traveling this Sunday so I don’t think a family brunch is a possibility we’ll celebrate with a candlelit heart day dinner on Monday!
Fun ways to celebrate with littles:
- Print Paper Co. scripture cards and read them together each day leading up to Valentine’s Day!
- Round up your nicest linens, candlesticks and china for a “fancy” meal at home! The kiddos won’t forget it. Princess dresses welcome!
- Decorate together. You don’t need to buy much (although this wreath, these towels, and these felt hearts were fun purchases we’ll use each year!) you can make your own decor together or print art and banners from the Fernandina Paper Co. in just a few minutes! I plan to buy a couple dozen pink balloons on Sunday night after the girls go to bed to fill the dining room with. What a fun surprise they’ll have in the morning!
- Have the kiddos sign their Valentine’s or at least help you choose them! If you’re not ready to hand over class Valentine’s to your littles, have them sign each card or select the design. They’ll love having a little ownership and proudly handing them out to classmates. You can still print Paper Co. Valentine’s Day gift tags in just a few minutes!
- Create homemade cards for a local ministry or nursing home! What a special way to spread God’s love and show your community you care.
- Bake treats to share. Or in our case, buy premade cookies to decorate for neighbors & friends!
- Grab a Valentine’s Day craft kit from Target to work on together. Valentine’s jams in the background are a must!
- Read Valentine’s Day books leading up to the big day! We love collecting books for each holiday. The best way to help littles understand what it’s all about!
- Turn your child’s Easter basket into a Valentine’s Day basket! A fun way to speak their love language with small toys and treats!
How do you get your kiddos involved in Valentine’s Day?
