Thanks so much to The Schoolhouse Inn for hosting us! It was such a treat!
Mom and dad got a night off last week! We dropped Alba Grace off with her nana (PTL for grandparents!) and drove about three minutes down the road to check into Fernandina’s newest boutique hotel for a mini staycation!
I used to drive past the old schoolhouse (turned offices) downtown and wish that someone would come along and turn the beautiful historic building into something fun! I never would have guessed it would become a boutique hotel, but I’m so glad it did! The owners thought of everything – vintage schoolhouse art, themed guest rooms, and an amazing bar named “The Princiapals Office.” I love the play on the building’s original use. Even with a vintage feel, the destination is far from dated! ๐ The location is so walkable and convenient to everything downtown but if you want to stay on property – there’s a beautiful pool and a courtyard with a putting green (if you follow along on insta stories you probably saw us having a little too much fun on the putting green!) to keep you busy! Everyone was so hospitable and welcoming! It’s no surprise the hotel is a part of the Southern Living Hotel collection. Fits right in!
A bit more info about the Schoolhouse Inn…
“Located in a prime location in downtown Fernandina Beach on historic Amelia Island, the Amelia Schoolhouse Inn was originally built as the first school on the island in 1886. Designed by acclaimed architect Robert Sands Schuyler and known to all as “Schoolhouse No. 1”, it ceased being a school later in the 20th century. After languishing around being a mix-used property for many decades, the dream was cast in 2017 to turn the “Old Schoolhouse” back into something the island could be proud of. By doing a complete restoration of much of the original items such as the windows, heart of pine floors, and brick, the Amelia Schoolhouse Inn brought back the original luster of the past and combined it with the modern amenities of today.
With 17 guest rooms, a pool, a courtyard with a putting green, and an upscale bar named “The Principal’s Office”, the Amelia Schoolhouse Inn promises to provide all the amenities a boutique inn should have along with being in a superb location within walking distance to over 30 restaurants and many more shops.” – AmeliaSchoolHouseInn.com

If you’re visiting or if you’re a local, I highly recommend you pop in to the The Principal’s Office bar (the American Girl was my favorite, Principal’s Rita coming in as a close second!!!) it’s such a cool spot! We’ll definitely be back soon!
