On this fine Sunday, I’m thrilled to introduce, Katherine Bramlett! This Alabama native grew up traveling with her family and learned to embrace her creativity at a young age. While attending college in Nashville, she had the privilege of interning for a talented interior designer which led to her decision to enter into the field. She’s passionate about home & family and finds so much pleasure in using her creative energy to create beautiful spaces for others to enjoy. She adores everything about working in the design world – from the people, to the fabrics, to the floorpans! When she’s not working, she’s probably painting (you can find her collection here and follow along behind the scenes on Instagram) or enjoying Mexican Food (hmmm, sounds familiar).

So what exactly do you do?
Ha! I’m still figuring that out myself! I’d say I’m a bundle of creative energy trying to figure it out, daily. By day, I’m an interior designer, and an artist in all the time between. For the past two years, I have been working with a wonderful, established firm in Alabama. I love that I get to work closely with my clients to shape their homes. Every project is different – big, small, contemporary, classic – but my hope is that every finished product would be a reflection of the client. I’m all about spaces that are fresh and classic but mostly comfortable for the people who live there. When I’m not involved in design work, I’m painting. It is my outlet. It is good for my soul and mind. I love that I have the opportunity to share it with others. It really fuels me to keep exploring with color and texture to create new products.
Where do you find inspiration?
I’d say all the little parts of my life spill over into both my designs & art. I am largely inspired by God’s creation – the season, the outdoors, and all their colors. I’m also heavily inspired by travel – always taking in the things around me. The other things that inspire me include good coffee, the week’s cut flowers, Ann Washburn’s store, a beautiful room, great conversation, and walks.
How do you balance it all?
I think balance is a hard thing to find in the creative field. I have a really hard time turning it off, and honestly I’m not sure I want to. All the little parts of my life (even when totally unrelated to art) inspire me. Of course, there are a lot of times when I turn it all off (preferably with a glass of wine, bowl of popcorn, and Dancing with the Stars), but for the most part, I think part of what I love about my career is that it does spill over and tricky thought my life.
What’s one piece of advice you’d like to share with other creative women?
Go for it! I remember feeling so hesitant and skeptical of pursuing a career in art & design. I’m so thankful that I had people in my life who encouraged me to go after what I loved. I know it’s so cliché but someone told me that what you find yourself constantly doing in your spare time is where you should look first for your career. For me, that was always art & design. Those were the things I was passionate about and I can see now that my passion is what drives my work ethic and leads me to constantly challenge myself.
