Good morning from Fernandina! I wish I could say that I was writing this from the great outdoors but it’s hotter than hot outside so I’m enjoying iced coffee in the AC!
My heart is all over the place right now. Lots of change. All good things, just different. Feeling a little unsettled. Not bad stuff but I’m not in control which is… challenging. hahaha! Definitely a good reminder of Who IS in control though.

1. THE SPEECH
I may or may not have listened to Matthew McConaughey’s speech on joy four times. It was so well delivered and packed full of truth nuggets. A few takeaways…
“Don’t spend time with anything that antagonizes your character” ( 3:59 ) *oh dang*
“Too many options will make us a tyrant of all.” Loved this so much! Simplify. Simplify. Simplify. Get rid of the excess. Decrease options. “If you do this, you will accidentally put in front of you what is important.”
“Engage with the world and get some real human interaction.”
“Eliminate what’s keeping you from your identity. Eliminate who you are not.”
2. WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING
I posted early last month about reading Where The Crawdads Sing and y’all went wild on IG sharing your thoughts, rave reviews and excitement! Many of y’all asked for me to share my final thoughts once I was done but I can’t do that just yet. I’ve been sitting on the last chapter of the book for weeks now because I’m not ready for it to end. The book is well deserving of all of the praise it’s received! Beautiful story, my favorite setting, and a talented author. Pick it up asap!
3. ON THE TV
Have y’all watched season 3 of Stranger Things yet? That last episode had me boo-hooing. That’s all I’ll say. Go watch it.
I wish Cam would break away from Southern Charm and start her own show. Palmer and Paula can join too. ๐
I am a Duggar family fan. Y’all probably already knew that about me though. I’ll never forget watching a 19 Kids and Counting marathon with my bridesmaids while getting ready for my wedding! If you too enjoy this type of big family/wholesome goodness, you will love Sweet Home Sextuplets! My favorite show right now! Kind of has me wanting to move to a farm in small town Alabama! ๐
4. BYE BYE BABY STUFF
I cleaned out the closet under the stairs where I was tossing baby gear we weren’t using, clothes that don’t fit, things to give to friends with newborns…. it was hard. Packing up those itty bitty outfits was tough. Saved a bunch in case AG has a little sister one day but gave most of it to our friends with little girls younger than AG. Also, if we have a boy, he’s going to have to deal with a lot of pink hand-me-downs! Sorry in advance baby boy!
5. ON THE BLOG
I go back and forth about how much personal stuff to share here on the blog. My family is my favorite thing to share about and that type of content seems to be your favorite too. I want to be an open book but at the same time have super healthy boundaries in place to protect my family from any unnecessary criticism/negativity. I could ramble on and on about this but I wanted to address the subject because some of y’all have asked about my life update posts. It’s been forever since I’ve done one of those. I should get over my fears and keep going with those… ๐ Stay tuned!
6. OUT OF THE RUNNING
Reminded lately that I need to preach myself the gospel every. single. day. I need to stay aware of what He has already done and what I do from there. Coming at life from an “it is FINISHED!!!!!” approach seems to be the solution for most of life’s problems. Surprise, surprise! ๐ Friends, the burden has been lifted! You are free from the lies. Love this post from Jess Connolly. Do yourself a favor and take yourself out of the running! Your goal is to worship the one who is best. Not be the best. SO FREEING.
love y’all! mckenzie
