Well, hey! I realize that Thanksgiving is now old news but I totally meant to get this post up on Monday. Oops! We had lots of fun over Thanksgiving and I hope y’all did too! I’m actually STILL unpacking (my golly, please tell me y’all take a week to unpack from big trips as well?!) and editing pics from the trip. We took a TON!
On Wednesday we drove up to Athens, GA to spend the weekend with family there. It’s such a cute town with so much history and a fierce sense of town pride. We loved driving around town and checking out the UGA campus, my uncle had a blast telling us his stories of his shenanigans back in thee day at UGA. The historic homes surrounding the campus definitely caught my eye – they’re gorgeous!
Thursday morning we all helped to make Thanksgiving “dinner” (not sure why everyone calls it dinner when the feast usually goes down around noon, but we’ll roll with it!) and it was GOOD. We had all the the traditional fixins and the yummiest dessert spread. I look forward to Thanksgiving food all year long. My mom lugged two pies and my very favorite coconut cake (from Miss Carolyn’s of course!) up to GA and I’m so glad she did. I may have eaten half that coconut cake all by myself, but who’s keeping track?! ๐
Friday we woke up early to do a teeny bit of Black Friday shopping and most importantly, watch Gilmore girls. Naturally, my sister and I wore matching sweatshirts to celebrate the grand occasion. I’m still not finished (one more episode to go!) because I’m just not ready for it to be over. DO NOT TELL ME THE LAST FOUR WORDS. I REPEAT – DO NOT.
We also stopped by Terrapin Brewery on Friday. We had a large crew with us and not everyone was into craft beer, but it was still a lot of fun. Terrapin has a huge outdoor area where dogs and kiddos can run around and play. There’s also a bunch of fun outdoor games. You pay $12 and get a cute glass + 6 tickets to try different beers they’re brewing. You’ll also get to go on a brewery tour which was fascinating. I highly recommend visiting if you’re ever in Athens!
Saturday was my favorite day of the trip. We woke up early and drove about two hours north to Highlands, NC. Pearce and I had never been to Highlands and we were majorly impressed. It’s THE cutest little town on top of a mountain. The views on the way up were stunning – we pulled over at all the lookout spots and found a waterfall along the way! The shopping wasn’t too bad either! I got a little carsick on the way up and down, but it was worth it! Might have to get a weekend trip to Highlands in the books for 2017.
^^ We had lunch on the rooftop at Cypress. Their brunch menu is fantastic!
Sunday we drove home to find the most beautiful Carolina Blue Sapphire Christmas tree waiting on us. Pearce’s family picked it up for us when they took their annual trip to the Christmas tree farm. We didn’t get to join this year because we spent the holidays with my family but I’m so thankful we still got a tree! She’s 9ft tall and takes up most of our entryway. Oh and I’m in love. Tis’ the season!
Hope y’all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
