When we moved into our house our backyard needed a LOT of love! I was out back working on projects (like painting the fence black and then changing my mind and painting it white….) often and wanted to find a budget-friendly playset the girls could enjoy. We purchased this inexpensive playset (price has gone up a couple hundred dollars since we purchased but here’s a similar setup for $300!) for the girls last Christmas. It was the perfect find for our (at the time) 1 and 4 year olds. Totally toddler approved! It’s not too tall or too difficult to put together and I think it’ll be a great fit for the next few years. I was shocked when my 1 year old climbed to the top and slid down dozens of times on day one! Playground equipment makes me a bit nervous so I was thrilled to find an option that wasn’t too big and gave me some peace of mind!
MAKEOVER
The wood finish of the playset is actually really pretty but the primary accent colors weren’t doing it for me. In under an hour I spray painted the swings, rocks, slide, and hardware a pretty black using this outdoor plastic spray paint. And then I covered the royal blue fabric roof with a couple yards of black and white stripe outdoor fabric with the help of my staple gun! It took less than an hour to give the set a complete makeover. I think it turned out pretty darn cute for the amount of effort we put in! You can easily find an outdoor fabric that fits your home aesthetic to put your own spin on it! We also replaced one of the swings with this wooden horse swing for Millie!
BUILD TIME
It took Pearce about a day and half to put the set together. He didn’t have any help but didn’t complain too much! It’s pretty lightweight so if you have older kids swinging you’d definitely want to stake it down! ๐ Lots of screws and tedious parts but overall pretty simple and straightforward.
We’ve since added a small trampoline to the backyard too! I’m always on the hunt for backyard activities to keep the girls outside! We’re fortunate to have awesome outdoor spaces all around us so I definitely want to take advantage. What are your favorite backyard toys for littles?
