My Instagram account no longer allows me to share question box sticker responses. So it’s way easy to answer those questions here in a roundup! I think I got to all of them but if you don’t see your question here, drop me a note!!!! Thank you all for asking such fun questions!
Ps. Happy last day of 2021! ๐
Q: Step-by-step directions for printing placemats – I never know where to start locally!
A: The best thing about local printers is that they do all of the work for you! Call and ask for their email address and shoot them your PDF via email! Easy peasy!
Ps. She’s referring to Fernandina Paper Co placemats! ๐
Q: I need curtains!! Beautiful curtains with color but not 20k!? Help!
A: Spoonflower for sure! Muuuuch better quality than premade drapes from ballard or pottery barn IMO and there are literally thousands of options! I ordered our dining room drapes from spoonflower using a Danika Herrick fabric that I adore. Custom without the price tag!
Q: I love how you decorate! Need a home tour!
A: You’re the sweetest! I love that Instagram has connected me with lots of ladies that share my home decor style so it’s always fun to share projects with y’all. In true McKenzie fashion I did not decorate “one room at a time” like I told you I would. So there are lots of projects happening around here. Hoping to share a little progress report in Jan with where we’re at with projects and some pics from before we moved in!
Q: Pendant lighting for above island?
A: I feel like we’ve seen it all at this point so I vote you do something fun! Lights are easy to change down the road so bring some interest in. I think these pendants would be fabulous over a kitchen island!
Q: Barstool recs?
This is the style we did in our last house and these in the house before. I also love this classic style – it’s a great price too! We also had lucite barstools once upon a time but those are no fun with kids IMO – lots of little handprints to clean!
Q: What’s your mom room and what will it be used for?!
When we bought this house there were a few potential deal breakers. Our bedroom has no windows (story for another day), there’s no formal powder bath and there was no separate office space unless I took over one of the extra bedrooms. The laundry room was a biiiiiig sunroom once upon a time. So we decided to invest in making that room fabulous so that I could use it as an office/laundry room/ organization hub/ coffee bar/ gift wrap station. The idea grew on me and I thought about how stinking beneficial it will be to switch loads in between emails!!!! So wah-lah, soon you will meet my “mom room!”
Q: Candlesticks link (asked a few times lol)
Candlesticks are Anthropologie. I was influenced by lots of insta friends that styled them beautifully. They’re way too fun! I can’t find them online so I assume they’re sold out. I scooped them up in-store in all three sizes – so if you have an Anthro check there!
Q: Least favorite Disney park with kids? We’re only going for 3 days!
I’ll rank them! MK is my favorite, next up is Epcot, then Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. AK is fun with little kids for a couple of hours but there’s not as much for them to do there.
Q: What was your favorite Christmas gift to get and give?
My dad got me a cute blue SMEG toaster and I’m pretty pumped about that! And my brother gifted us a gift card to a fun date night spot we’ve been wanting to try. My nana gifted us beautifully engraved wine glasses that we’ve loved using! Oh and my mom gifted us an air fryer which has already been so dang handy. We made the best chicken wings this week! Those two came to mind first! Our favorite gift to give was an Aura frame for Pearce’s parents. Fun for them to see the pics of our girls pop up every day!
Q: New here! Love your style! Do you do the renovations yourself?
A: We do as much as we can! Our last house was a complete gut and the only things we hired out were electrical, drywall, tile, and plumbing. We did the flooring, paint, trim work, front porch reno, replaced the front door, landscaping, etc. It was a biiiig job! So this go-around we’ve hired out more because we’re tired and have two kids running around. This is also a really old house so we want to make sure things are done properly. We’ve become pretty handy though so we do like to save where we can and put in the work! sweat equity is gold!
Q: Your scalloped seagrass lampshades link!
Here you go! Love their shades!
Q: What’s your go-to scent?
I don’t wear much perfume because I haven’t found a clean scent I love. For the home, I have been loving my friend Jen’s essential oil candles. You can check them out here!
Q: Can’t find the large storage baskets you posted in stock anywhere…. any ideas?
I found mine at Home Goods! Definitely check there! And sign up for restock notifications for them. Sorry!!!!! Those were a hit!
Q: Any good recs for a living room rug?
I love ours! I made the mistake of cleaning some nasty messes up with folex and the folex ruined the rug in some spots but we’ve layered another rug and a coffee table on it so you can’t really tell. So don’t do what I did and you’ll be good to go! It’s inexpensive enough to replace if there’s a major spill/accident. I also have it in our dining room and got one for my grandma’s house! It’s the prettiest sisal color, no yellow undertones. Definitely not comfy to play on though so don’t stick it in your playroom or a kids bedroom!
Q: Material you used to reupholster your dining chairs? Danika’s patterns!
Here’s the link to the fabric I covered our dining chairs in. Used the green colorway for my girl’s bath wallpaper and shades!
Q: I have the candlesticks also but I need to get candles. Where are yours from?
I always pick taper candles up at thrift stores!!! Also love Jenny Steffens Hobick’s candles! She has great colors!
Q: Inspire me! Need organization tips for our playroom after Christmas!
Hang tight because so many of y’all asked for similar content on my survey earlier this month. Lots of ideas coming your way in 2022! I love talking about playroom organization!!!!
Q: Link for the Christmas garland you used!
I love it so much! Would love to find more for next year now that it’s 50% off but our closest store is sold out and they will not ship. Here’s the link!
Q: Favorite thing about your new (old) home?
I could write a novel about this! I should at least put up a blog post. In short, I love all of the character. I love the park view from my front porch. I love the yard. I love the potential! It’s just so charming.
Q: Must have BC items?
So many! All of my makeup and skincare is BC. The first five that come to mind are the overnight resurfacing peel, counter bright serum, brow gel, my night cream and of course this lipstick!
Q: What house projects are you most excited about? And least excited about?
Most excited about finishing my “mom room” right now because it’s super functional and I thrive when things are organized. Least excited about exterior siding repairs because it’s expensive and not fun.
Q: What’s something you’re looking forward to in 2022?
We made an awesome (but huge and scary!) decision to move in 2021. It was the right decision and the healthiest decision for our little fam. We were craving simple and different and that’s what we got. I’m looking forward to slow days, enjoying our home, enjoying our little town and lots of sweet family time! Also looking forward to trips we have planned, tackling projects on our list, diving into a new bible study and continuing to grow our little community here. Just so thrilled to be staying still for a bit and settling down!
