We’ve officially been homeowners for a month! Somedays it feels like we’ve lived here forever, now that we’ve settled into our new routine. Other days, it feels like we’re still in the “moving in” phase. Everyone keeps asking how it’s going and I have a standard response, “for some wild reason I thought we’d move in and everything would magically fall into place, we’d unpack all the boxes on day one, have furniture picked out for every room, and have every last detail in place within a few weeks.” Obviously I was a bit very naive about how much work this was going to be. While it is starting to feel like our home, we’ve still got a ton of work to do. Folks keep telling us it’s going to be a work in progress forever. I get that. Cheers to progress not perfection!
A few shots of said progress….
In addition to the fun parts of homeownership (aka decorating #AllTheThings) we’ve had to jump right into the not-so-fun chores as well. You know, taking care of a lawn (someone please come over and tell us why the grass is dying before the HOA fines us!), cleaning a house that’s pretty much three times the size of our last apartment, and learning how to hang ceiling fans, mount televisions, and install light fixtures. ๐
We made a lot of decisions for this house purely for looks. I’ll admit they were not the most practical BUT we don’t have kids yet, so we pulled a YOLO. Our walls are now white, we took a risk with honed Carrara marble countertops in the kitchen, we purchased a white couch, and of course – chose the lightest (definitely the prettiest) carpet color for the bedrooms. We haven’t regretted any of these decisions (yet!) and I owe that to the cleaning products we have on hand. It’s so nice not having to be the girl who asks everyone to take their shoes off during home tours or freaks out over spills. No more sweating the small stuff. Thank you, Stainmaster!
When Stainmaster reached out about sending over a few products from their line to try out, I responded within minutes because I was on a mad hunt for anything and everything to help me take care of our carpets! I could not be happier with their carpet stain remover and high traffic area cleaner. The Mr. is on his feet most of the day as a teacher so his shoes get a ton of use and he always walks the same path to take them off – straight through our bedroom, stepping all over our white carpet. I don’t want to be that wife who makes the poor guy take his shoes off within seconds of walking through the door, so it’s ridiculously nice having these products to help treat difficult stains AND protect the carpet from future resoiling. Yep, unlike other stain removers the Stainmaster Carpet Care line leaves an invisible shield to repel dirt and protect from future damage. So the carpet looks newer much longer.
Stainmaster also sent over their rug stain remover (perfect for high traffic area rugs) and pet stain remover (if you’re a dog or cat mama, check this out!)
Funny story – when we moved in we had a strange yellow stain on our master bedroom carpet and somehow we failed to address it during our final walk through. So it was still there on move-in day. I thought it would be fun to show a before and after of the stain in this blog post, using the Stainmaster Carpet Cleaner to remove it. As soon as these products came in (before I’d had a chance to tell Pearce my plan for the post) he grabbed the cleaner and sadly, cleaned up the stain before I could snap a before pic. You should have seen his reaction when I scolded him for cleaning up a stain in our bedroom. He’s a trooper. Good news – the Stainmaster Carpet Cleaner works SUPER well and there’s no longer a stain for me to take a photo of!
The aforementioned stain should have been visible in the photo below, but you can’t see it at all. It’s a white carpet miracle, y’all!
I love that I can go on with my daily life without having to fear a coffee spill (we had a BAD one in our last apartment and ended up having to pay an arm and a leg to have it cleaned) or dirty shoes ruining our brand new carpet! Stainmaster products never leave a sticky residue (some other products do – and that residue actually attracts more dirt, no thank you!) and they’ll help keep our carpet looking fresh for years to come. If you’re a new homeowner with brand new carpet or you’ve been walking on the same carpet for years – try these products out!
