Holy guacamole I can’t believe it’s finally time to share a “finished” room in our new old house! I get so much joy out of sharing our home. It’s not perfect, it’s not being published in a magazine anytime soon, it’s taken years to become a reality and yet we LOVE calling it ours. It can be so easy to compare our homes to the other homes we see online, to our friends more “put together spaces” and to the vision we have in our head. Home is not a competition. Do what YOU want and throw out the rules. HOME takes time. It takes time to save for furnishings, to find your style, to realize what’s functional for your family and what isn’t.With all of that being said, I freaking love this house. I love that it’s different than any home we’ve had before but somehow feels more like us.
It’s been so darn special to research the home’s history (more on that soon), put our personal touches on the house and even meet the little girl that grew up here. An old house lovers DREAM, y’all. Don’t worry, sweet Ms. Barbara gave us her stamp of approval on the renovations so far!
The dining room is really our only indoor eating area at the moment so while I wanted it to have a bit of formality and drama I also needed it to serve my family well all day everyday. We’re still waiting on a dining chair and dining bench (we’ll put the leaf in the table when those arrive) but other than that I’m not touching it anymore! We’ve already hosted many a meals around this table, enjoyed tons of family dinners and afternoon craft sessions. Oh and the holidays. Love gathering in this cozy room during the holidays.
My grandmother gave us her dining table and I love that my girls get to do life at the same table I did my homework at growing up. 🙂
When we moved in we had our interior ceilings painted BM Windy Sky (along with our front porch ceiling!) and we decided to paint the dining room walls the same color but in a flat, at 50%!
Table, accent chair (we use for time out lol), buffet, candle sconces, wicker plant stand and china cabinet are all antiques so I won’t be able to link those but these search words might help you in your search! 🙂
