Take me BACK!!!! Each time we visit Charleston I’m reminded of how much I love it and secretly want to live there. In fact, I usually bring up the idea when we’re they’re on a trip. And then we come back down to reality and realize that we’ve got it way too good here to pack up and move. And besides… CHS is only a hop skip and a jump away! Perfect for a weekend getaway!
I shared about our stay at The Beach Club Charleston last week but wanted to hop on and share the rest of the details from this magical weekend!
FRIDAY
Our first order of business when driving to Charleston is always to pop into the Carolina Cider Company for roadtrip snacks. The yummiest dips, sweets, jamps and treats! The drive from Fernandina to CHS isn’t bad at all, just about 3.5 hours. Once we arrived in the Holy City we checked into our gorgeous hotel and spent the evening soaking it all in! SATURDAY
We kicked off our Saturday shenanigans with a drive through the Old Village neighborhood in Mount Pleasant. It’s probably no surprise that driving around to look at beautiful houses is one of my favorite pastimes! 😉 After creepily photographing dozens of homes (what’s a girl to do when she finds the perfect shutter color?!) we drove over to Tavern & Table for lunch with a sweet friend of ours. You bet your bottom dollar we ordered the fried deviled eggs right away! Worth every calorie. I’ve thought about them every day since. (Wonder if they’d be able to ship some to me?!) We also ordered a mac & cheese appetizer with… wait for it…. pulled pork. SO GOOD. Need to recreate at home one day! After a yummy lunch and the sweetest time catching up with our friend Martha, we went back to our hotel to refresh and make a gameplan. We decided to take the water taxi downtown and start working through our Charleston Heritage Passport!

While we were downtown we popped into Lake Pajama’s to check out their new Children’s Line (picked up AG’s first pair of Lake PJs!) and Madison Matthews to shop their sample sale! We didn’t have much time for shopping – really need a full day on and around King Street to hit up all of my favorites! We also snuck up to the Vendue’s rooftop for a bit – such a great view of the city!
Later that evening we drove over to Summerville for our first Bed & Breakfast experience. Fitted with a cast of fascinating characters, a family from Australia, a woman visiting from the UK and a darling innkeeper who was overjoyed to serve us all breakfast, the B & B was just like what you see in movies! The home itself was truly breathtaking – huge porches, gorgeous greenhouses and gardens, and antiques galore! Highly recommend you check out the Flowertown Bed & Breakfast if you’re ever in town. We purchased our stay through Airbnb so that we could redeem referral credits. This experience was one of my favorites from the trip! It was incredibly charming, had every amenity we needed and gave us the chance to check out a different part of town. Can’t wait to visit again with AG in tow!
SUNDAY
Sunday we tried our hardest to hit up as many of the plantations on our passport as we could. We made the mistake of visiting the most beautiful property first and ended up staying for hours. Middleton Place was unreal! Acres and acres of beautifully maintained gardens, farm animals, exhibits, a restaurant, an inn and more! Pearce and I both decided that if we lived in CHS we would request annual passes so that we could come walk the gardens daily! After forcing ourselves to leave Middleton we drove over to Drayton Hall which was also really impressive but not nearly as big or tourist-friendly.
Our first baby-free weekend away was absolutely perfect. I’m so grateful we were able to sneak away for a few days, just the two of us! Can’t wait for our next getaway!
