“May your walls know joy, may every room hold laughter, and every window open to great possibility.” – Mary Anne Radmacher
I’ve been getting a ton of questions about our house progress on Instagram so I thought I’d take a minute to fill y’all in on all the details! Sharing this with y’all makes it even more fun, so thank you for your interest and enthusiasm! I know a lot of y’all are going through the process as well!
The house is taking shape and coming to life. Sunday afternoons after church we drive by and check in on everything and there’s almost always something new to see! It’s pretty stinkin’ cool to watch a pile of dirt transform into a structure that will one day be the place we call home.
We’re hoping to be in the house in about 8 weeks. We were expecting it to be a little sooner but Irma took about three weeks away from us and there’s a lot of catch up to do! These photos were taken about a month ago and since then we’ve made a little more progress! And by “we” I mean the excellent team of talented folks who are actually building the house, not us… haha! The house is now fully framed and we have electrical! Next up we’ll get a roof (the materials are in, we’re just waiting on an installer to make it happen) and then the hardy siding goes up! Around the same time they’ll insulate and put up drywall. We’re supposed to see these things take place in the next couple of weeks, which in my opinion is when it truly starts to feel like a home! After that they’ll paint, add flooring, tile, finish plumbing, and then it’s time for cabinetry! And I’m sure in between all of that, a few more less exciting steps have to take place.
a few faq’s:
Where are you living now?
We’re living with Pearce’s parents until our house is complete. We’re super thankful they’re letting us hunker down here!
Did you sell your other house?
We did! We actually sold our house back in April and moved out earlier this month. The new home owners are really great! We were thrilled to see the house go to a family that will love it like we did!
Are you going to live in this house for more than a year?
Haha! The question of the hour. Very popular amongst our family and friends! We are definitely going to stay for more than a year! I’m down to stay for a few years and Pearce is too. Especially if kiddos are in our near future. We think staying put for a little while will be good for us. But we aren’t going to make any promises! 😉
Why did y’all decide to move?
More on that, here.
It’s safe to say I’m a little excited about our new home base.
love y’all, mckenzie
