Eeeek! I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now if you’re following along on instagram! This girl can’t bear to keep a juicy secret. We’re building again!
I figured I’d wait a bit to share the details but I’m just way too excited to keep y’all in the dark. First let me answer the question of the hour. Why are we moving? That’s easy. It’s a good time to sell, it’s a good time to build, and we’re ready to feel a little more “settled” if you will. Buying a home is an investment and we saw a return on our investment much quicker than we thought we would (thank you, Jesus!), which means we can pay off debt, something we’re big fans of (thank you Dave Ramsey!). This also means that we can pour into our next investment and start making our new house into our long(er) term home! In all transparency… I had high hopes of our next house being a charming historic reno project BUT after seeing what felt like a bajillion fixer uppers (the good, the bad and the very, very ugly!) and taking a hard hit from Mr. Reality (who’s best buds with Mr. Budget), we realized that wasn’t the best route right now. So once again we’re joining the ranks of suburbian subdivision living. We’re pretty stoked about it.
We knew that we wouldn’t live in our first home more than a few years, so when the timing felt right, we pulled the trigger and put our house on the market. Yes, it’s soon. BUT we’re young, we’re flexible and we don’t have any kiddos yet, so we figured now is as good a time as any to build again. We also have a fantastic realtor who also happens to be my Father in Law. Our gameplan for the next house is to stay put for a few years, maybe bring a baby or two (who am I kidding, I’m praying for triplets! Ps. Don’t tell Pearce ;)! ) home, and settle in. I realized when we put the house on the market that I’ve moved just about every year since I was 11. So crazy. With that being said, I want to put my heart into making our next house a home and stick around for a bit. As for our current house, that bad boy sold FAST. Which was a major blessing because I did not love prepping our house every single morning to be show-ready. The new homeowners are as sweet as they come and I feel so blessed to be passing our first home along to them! It’ll be in good hands. #sentimental
Now that we’ve been through the process we know what to expect and more importantly, we know what we want in a home. That has made the process SO much easier and a heck of a lot more fun. It also helps that I started working for an interior design firm just two weeks before we signed the contract for our new build! The new gig has really helped me hone in on my style and what I want in our future home. Timing is everything, isn’t it?!
So without further ado… my inspiration for the new house is very… Southern, Coastal, Lowcountry-esque. I’m so darn excited! I swear I’ll do a better job blogging about the process this time around as it seems so many of my readers are also renovating/building homes right now.
