Come on in, y’all! I finally came to the realization that our house will never be “done” and that’s 100% okay! While there are still a couple of things I’d like to cross off my kitchen to-do list (like swapping out our fridge for a counter depth version!) it’s about time I shared this space with y’all! I get lots of questions about the details (which is so flattering!) so I’m going to try and share everything here to make sources easy to find!

We started building our house about two years ago and moved in December of 2017. The kitchen was my favorite space to dream up! Although it was a huge learning experience, I really loved designing this space. I feel like it’s totally us. It’s right off the main living room which makes it the heart of our home. We’ve had many many sweet nights with friends gathered around the humongous island and equally as many sweet mornings as a family cooking breakfast. I’m so so grateful to have a beautiful space to entertain and cook with my little family. We’re not sure how long we’ll be in this home but I feel very very blessed to get to enjoy it! 🙂

HARDWARE

While browsing Pinterest for inspiration I fell in love with the Duluth Drawer Pull from RH. It’s so interesting and has an updated vintage feel to it. I have always adored polished nickel and knew it would be “neutral” enough for resale but still beautiful for us to enjoy! We needed a TON of knobs for the space (over 30!) so I knew the matching RH knob was out of our budget. I ended up purchasing these Amerock knobs and couldn’t be happier!

Shoutout to my amazing husband for carefully installing each and every pull and knob! He’s the real deal y’all!

COUNTERTOPS

Another question I get asked about quite a bit, typically by folks who are on the fence! Our countertops are good ole’ fashioned Carrara Marble. This is the second home we’ve had them in and I’ll choose them again every time. Ours are honed, not polished but I think polished is beautiful as well! YES there is a bit of maintenance involved, they will etch, and they’re very likely to stain…. BUT if you love the Carrara look and feel there’s really nothing like it. If you’re worried about maintenance and aren’t 100% set on real Carrara Marble than I’d recommend going the Quartz route. There are some beautiful Quartz countertops out there! I personally love LG Viatera and we use this material in almost all of our client’s homes!

BACKSPLASH

We chose a traditional Subway (sooo budget friendly!) in a bright white. I laid them out in a hex pattern and used a light gray grout for definition. I love how it turned out and am confident that future home owners will enjoy it as well! Super simple!

LIGHTING

I prefer the look of fewer, larger scale pendants over a kitchen island. I loved these pretty pendants and couldn’t believe the price so I ordered them right away. We also had under cabinet lights installed and lots of recessed lights. Sadly this space doesn’t get as much natural light throughout the day as other rooms in the house do. Lighting makes such a big difference in a kitchen, don’t you think?!

PLUMBING & APPLIANCES

I’m not over the moon in love with our appliances but they’ve done the trick! Everything is Kenmore. Our kitchen sink on the other hand has been amazing! It’s beautiful and works like a champ! Highly recommend.

MY FAVORITE DETAILS

I don’t regret going BIG on the island! It’s absolutely huge and the perfect place to gather when we host a party. I think it would have been a bit more aesthetically pleasing to go smaller but I appreciate the extra counter space!

I’m also a big big fan of our drawers – we have two huge drawers underneath the stovetop, one houses cooking supplies like spices and measuring cups, and the other houses pots and pans. It’s so convenient and much easier than rummaging through a cabinet! We also have a double trash can drawer which is a MUST if you’re designing a kitchen! My next kitchen will have drawers for everything!

Next to the oven we have a tall appliance cabinet with outlets inside. This cabinet is where I store our small appliances like toasters and waffle makers. It’s also where we keep our coffee maker plugged in! I love that our big Nespresso isn’t taking up any counterspace and it’s hidden away!

The shiplap island is another favorite detail! Our breakfast nook is also shiplapped so it ties in well. With the farmhouse style legs the island feels a bit more like furniture and less like standard cabinetry.

Barstools – Dayna stools from Ballard Designs in warm gray. I think they’re great quality and will last us a very very long time!
